Porsche Boxster 986 Polyurethane Front Mount - $125 shipped

This is a solid Polyurethane front motor mount for the Porsche Boxster 986. This mount is the same for either the standard or the S model.

This mount has a 6061 Aluminum center with a 60A Durometer Polyurethane center.

The stock mount, is prone to failure, and has been known to fail at less than 30,000 miles. The stock mount is hollow and not very strong. The photo of a mount below was taken out of a stock Boxster S and has been completely ripped in half. The movement was very noticeable from inside the vehicle. The motor sounds smoother and shifts are much crisper with the Cheetah mount. There is not any noticeable added vibration on a car, actually the opposite seems true. Pressing the gas pedal, the car is much more responsive, as the motor does not lose as much torque into the mounts.

The mount is installed just as the stock mount. Installation takes about 90 minutes, with floor jacks, a socket set, and a press to remove the old mount. The mount does not include the mounting bracket, only the insert replacement.

A great installation guide can be seen here: 986forum.com. To install this specific mount, fit the polyurethane sleeve into the bracket first, then fit the Aluminum center into the polyurethane sleeve.

Stock mounts are available only from Porsche, and are $190 or higher. That stock mount will not survive long, especially with "spirited" driving, but the Cheetah mount should last the life of the vehicle.

Cheetah motor and transmission mounts are each machined from either solid blocks, or multiple precision machined pieces. These mounts should never need to be replaced, unlike the stock units which are usually considered a wear item. These will give the same effect as solid metal mounts, without the intense vibration which metal transmits.

These mounts stop the jumping or twisting of the motor under the hood. This movement is caused by the rotating mass of the crankshaft and transmission components. With stock mounts, the engine will twist itself in the engine bay when the throttle is opened, or during high-speed shifts. Over time, this force will destroy the stock rubber mounts. When this happens, the rubber may split or rip, allowing the engine to potentially move inches back and forth. This can destroy CV joints, other mounts, and create even worse wheel-hop.

With these mounts, shifts will be much crisper. There should not be any noticeable added vibration on a car with any suspension modifications, and many times the mounts will smooth the vehicle vibrations by stopping excess movement caused from soft factory mounts. While pressing the gas pedal, a vehicle is much more responsive; as the motor does not lose as much torque twisting into the mounts.

At a price usually less than that of inferior stock mounts, these are not only a great performance item, but a bargain for each application.
